Pujols Extension Talks Start

It was reported yesterday that GM John Mozeliak met with Albert Pujols’ representation to start talking about his extension. Today, we’re learning about what the slugger wants.

Jon Heyman of SI has tweeted that Pujols wants a deal comparable to the one Alex Rodriguez received when he re-upped with New York – 10 years, $275MM.

The players are pretty comparable, as they’ve been the top players for quite a while. Some would even argue that Pujols is the best player of all time; it’s questionable, but he’s definitely in the conversation.

Will the Cardinals be able to afford more than $27MM a year? Is it too risky to offer that long of a contract?
